Travel, Yoga, and Connection: The Kinship Journey Continues in 2026

Hi, I’m Angie — one half of Kinship Yoga Retreats.

When Kaytee and I dreamed up Kinship Yoga Retreats, we wanted to create something more than a trip. We wanted to create experiences that leave you with the same afterglow as a truly transformative yoga class: present, grateful, connected, and alive.

Why We Started Kinship

Kaytee and I met in Austin back in 2017. We became fast friends over vegan food, our love of travel, and our shared commitment to creating inclusive spaces where everyone belongs. As yoga teachers, we both believe yoga is more than postures — it’s a practice of nurturing body, mind, and soul.

Our retreats were born from that shared vision: to weave together yoga, culture, and community into bucket-list-worthy adventures that don’t just show you a place, but help you feel at home in yourself while you’re there.

Our Personal Journeys with Travel

For both of us, travel was something we craved long before it was accessible.

Kaytee grew up in Brownsville, TX, where family vacations meant all day road trips to San Antonio or Houston. Her first big leap was moving across the pond to London for college. Suddenly she was surrounded by cultures and communities so different from her own, yet she found belonging in the richness of that diversity. Those years cracked her world wide open — she spent school breaks visiting friends’ families in Portugal, Sweden, and other parts of the UK. On long weekends, she’d hop on the train to Paris or Amsterdam and stay in hostels. When her and her friends were lucky enough to find a flight under 100 pounds, they would spend a few days in Italy or Spain. Traveling to new places and experiencing new cultures inspired Kaytee, and also gave her a deeper appreciation for her own Mexican-American roots.

I can relate. Growing up in Hawai’i, most people didn’t feel the need to leave the island. The common ideology was that when you lived in paradise and had everything you needed, why leave? I felt like the odd one who craved different and new, but I always longed for something beyond the island. So when I applied for college I picked schools that were on the East Coast or middle of the U.S. I ended up moving to Austin for undergrad and experienced culture shock moving from a melting pot of diversity to a place where I was one of the token brown kids at school. Summer after freshman year I had the opportunity to travel abroad through a program called Semester at Sea and in just a few weeks, traveled to eight countries. It was life-changing. Suddenly I could see how vast, beautiful, and diverse the world really was. That trip sparked a lifelong passion for travel and cultural exchange.

I believe that the magic of life happens when we are willing to put ourselves into new situations, be curious and open to discovering what is offered where we are, and be respectful of those in the communities we get the opportunity to visit. I am blessed to have met many amazing people during my travels, including my husband, as well as learn from the locals about what is truly important in life. It is these special moments that I hope to share with the participants of kinship yoga retreats.

Both of us discovered that travel isn’t just about where you go. It’s about who you become along the way. It’s about curiosity, openness, respect — and connection. That’s what we hope to share with everyone who joins us on retreat. You can read more about our story here.

Why Our Retreats Are Different

When you travel with us, you’re not rushing through a checklist of sights. You’re experiencing the culture, slowing down enough to notice the details, and anchoring each day with grounding practices. We balance yoga and self-care with adventure and exploration.

Every retreat includes:

  • Daily yoga + meditation to reset your nervous system and ground your energy.

  • Connection with local culture, whether through food, art, or guided tours.

  • Community and comfort — no need to feel like a tourist on your own.

  • Time to rest so you come home restored, not depleted.
